Samuel A. Richardson papers, 1856-1865.

Papers mostly relating to Richardson's service, 1862-1865, as a surgeon to the 13th Regiment, New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War. Included are official correspondence, muster rolls, reports of sick and wounded, a "Report of Medical and Hospital Property," and his discharge certificate. Non-military items are his Albany Medical College diploma (1856) and his certificate of election to the New Hampshire Medical Society (1857).

Surgeon, 13th Regiment New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry, 1862-1865. The regiment fought at Fredericksburg, Cold Harbor, and Petersburg. They were the first Union troops to enter Richmond after it was evacuated by Confederate forces in April 1865. Richardson received his medical degree from Albany Medical College in 1856.
